About Me
Silverton Sporting Ranch has become a home away from home for many of our guests visiting Maine. As a registered Maine Guide and Maine native I am totally in love with all that Maine has to offer and enjoy. I headed to UMass Amherst for a BS in Animal Science where I also was on the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team and the Dressage team. After graduation I ventured to NJ where I had done an internship with a dressage instructor and a Standardbred race horse vet. I started a veterinary diagnostic laboratory at the request of several vets. I ran the lab for 16 years while also breeding Labrador Retrievers, ran AKC and NAHRA retriever hunt tests and did some judging. Horses were still a big part of life as well and led to many trips to Virginia and Montana to ride in the mountains.
It was all great but I really missed Maine and all that Maine has to offer. Lakes, rivers, ponds instead of going to "the shore" were what I longed for. The chance to ATV, snowmobile, ice fish, snowshoe, kayak, and enjoy wildlife year round in their natural habitat was calling my name!
I finally found the perfect piece of property- 400 acres in Canaan with ponds, fields, mature woods, second growth and a log cabin. A year and a half later Silverton Sporting Ranch opened the doors to guests. One part of a sporting camp experience is coming to the lodge for meals and talking with everyone about their day and making new friends. I knew that great food was an important part of this experience and putting memorable meals on the table is a big priority. The sauces, marinades and seasonings that are offered here have come from that commitment.
I hope you will enjoy these unique products and that they will become a part of your memorable meals.
